Been awhile, I guess the ol' blog deserves some lovin.
What have been my thoughts as of late? Let me tell YOU!
First off, I'm always surprised how girls always think the best of guys. "Oh I met this really nice guy we had a chat all night about spontaneity in life and I should just do more random things!" Sorry dear, he was just trying to get in your pants. We can be wily, tricky creatures, and the fairer sex never seems to realize this.
I've learned how to be a lot more patient now that I'm in France. On Friday I had to go through some bureaucratic hoops, and it finally came out that I had basically wasted my day. This doesn't bother me anymore though, I just make a new plan and went to go enjoy my weekend. Whatever you do, don't panic! Also, giving the old ladies who work at these various administrations your best puppy dog look helps.
Had a very French night last night, which is a somewhat of a rarity. Sitting on the tip of Ile-de-cite, with a French picnic. Saucisson, cheese, bread, cantelope, pate, the whole works. And a big box of wine, hahaha. Don't worry, I didn't ruin my palate with that. I did have a nice moment at about midnight as I was sitting on the edge of the river seine, looking about, thinking that when I'm 40 I'll definitely want to remember being 24, carefree, and livin in Paris.
I met a fellow Canadian the other night. She asked, "Let me guess where you are from in Canada, say something!" I responded, "Give 'er." She said, "Oh, you must be from somewhere in the middle." I said, "You're from Ontario, I bet Windsor." She was from Missisauga actually, and we didn't talk after that. God, people from Ontario can be pricks.
I've caught myself saying "Thank God..." too much, so now I'm just going to say, "Thank Chemistry/physics/mathematics..." more often. I think it's a better reflection of my views.
Admittedly one thing pisses me off about France. People give me a lot of shit for not understanding everything in French, after a year of being here. So a lot just revert to speaking English with me, which is ok. But here's the difference, when I speak English with French people I speak slowly and very clearly. I use a lot of sentences that are direct translations from how it is said in French, because it's a lot easier for them to understand. But when everyone speaks French to me, they speak at normal or a heightened pace (even though they know my French isn't anywhere near perfect). Basically, it's their way of holding something over me. When they eventually do hear me speak English with other Anglophones, it kicks in how much I am changing my language for the sake of being understood.
Having the internet is good, I forgot how nice it is to just spend a few hours on a Saturday afternoon just surfing and chillin.
I'm throwing out my prediction for the Forrest Griffin/Quintin Jackson fight for the light heavyweight championship. I'm sayin that Griffin takes the 5 round decision. Jackson is a good fighter, but he hasn't really fought a big guy like Forrest in awhile. Having close decisions with Matt Lindland and Dan Henderson makes me think he's a little overrated, both those guys are natural middleweights. Forrest will be walking into this fight at probably 230lbs, and he has cardio for days. It's going to be standing battle for most of it, and Forrest has the footwork to keep his distance and hopefully not get caught.
Anywho, off to the gym here. I've met a pretty Australian girl and I've got to hold onto this one!
