Aloha!

I'm sittin here, in my housecoat...at 2pm, like a bum. I've spoiled myself for too long, I really need to get into my full time job.

It is said that man wants power. I haven't necessarily believed it, because I always thought that the more figurative interpretation of power is what is being referenced. I know I sure as hell don't want power, because it's basically responsibility. However, as I've been reading my periodization training book, I've been looking to develop, among other things, two specific qualities. Those are, force and speed, which any engineer will tell you is power. So I'll take the literal definition for 200 Alex.

The new LCD Soundsystem is quite good, as well as The Knife. Both recommendations by Mr. Dahlman strangely enough, I had been expecting more indie crap hahaha. And Goldfrapp is gettin some play as well.

I think it's really cool in whatever physical activity you do (and you damn well all better be doing at least one activity!), watching yourself progress. There is nothing more satisfying than running longer, stretching further, working faster, or lifting more. I like the tangible results you get from putting in the sweat and pain, it's about the closest feeling I can get to completing a mathematical proof.

Speaking of math, I was recently reading about how the Poincare Conjecture is now considered proven. The mathematician involved has both rejected the awarded Fields Medal (like a Nobel Prize but rarer) and the million dollar Clay Mathematics Institute prize. The reason being, he didn't need anything else, to those that know, the proof speaks for itself.

On a technical note, the method used in his proof is nuts. A metric space is some generalized space (place where things exist), which has a defined definition of distance between two points, the metric. He uses what's called Ricci Flow, which is essentially changing the metric of a space through a heat dispersion equation. So imagine being at a point in the space, and the definition of distance is being changed through the space that heat would flow through the space. Wow.

You know what pisses me off, GM coming out with their electric car now. The reason being is that you have to plug the damn thing in. So instead of the car polluting, it's now our power plants that are just polluting more. How the hell am I saving any money? Toyota and Honda have got it right, use evolutionary concepts instead of revolutionary. Why is this better? Use your tried and tested techniques, the problems will be easier to diagnose and correct, and the system will be more stable.

I usually don't watch much tv, but I caught a few specials last night on the obesity epidemic going on throughout North America and Europe. I'm suprised at how poorly the average person eats, it's really quite disgusting. Vegetables and fruits should be the major constitutants of your diet, with whole grains (oats, whole wheat, etc...) and leans cuts of meat filling out the rest of it, and low fat dairy if you can handle it. And potatos aren't a real vegetable as far as I'm concerned, your food should have bright natural colours, white means meaningless carbs.

Anywho, I should really go workout or do something with myself here, so until next time.
