So, I'm sittin in my little hotel room, actually not so little, getting ready for my big field assignment. Ugh. The next 20 days are going to be ugly. 13 hour days, walking 6 miles or more a day, acquiring seismic data. Well, at least I'll be able to set off some dynamite in residential and urban areas, that should be fun, in Oaklahoma no less.

The weekend was good here. We went to a few bars on Friday, as you can tell from my previous post. One was...a logical extension of Broken City, filled with jailbait and all. The other was more of a pub type atmosphere, overall good I'd say. I'm suprised overall with Texans, they are really nice hospitable people. Even moreso than Calgarians I'd say, anyone will happily have a conversation with you and just be friendly overall.

I gave into my consumerism side on Saturday at the mall. I do feel bad about it actually, just buying some stuff that I didn't really need but just wanted. I don't really like the idea of want, but it affects me nonetheless. I wonder if want is a function of what you already have, in that if you have a lot you want more based on that, and if you don't have much you don't want that much. Perhaps it's an experience thing, once you give into consumerism, it's a slippery slope. I dunno, I'm doing my best to keep it at bay though.

Missing home a little bit, wishing I could see a few people back at home. But! I'll be back in cowtown for Easter most likely, so that will be something to look forward to over the coming weeks of hard work.

Actually, I think this field assignment will be good as I'm getting a little sick of some of my group members. There are definate pluses and minuses of having such a diverse set of people. They bring new perspectives and ideas, interesting cultures, but also some agravations. Because we're so different, there are somethings we don't all value the same, so it makes planning things a little difficult. A break will be good.

Anywho, I should get to bed here, I bid you all a good night and I'll update more soon!
